Get to know your body
When was the last time you overate? Or, when did you last skip a meal even though you were hungry? Many people ignore the hunger and satiety signals their bodies send them. And yet, eating only when you are hungry is the most effective “diet” for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight!
Ideally, eat when you are only slightly hungry. If you wait until you are starving before eating, you risk eating too fast and too much. It is not necessary to ban certain foods from your diet or even to suffer through hunger signals to lose weight. Just listen to your body…it’s talking to you!
Watch out for false hunger signals. Seeing, smelling or thinking about appetizing food (e.g. chocolate cake, hot apple pie, french fries, etc.) can bring about a false hunger, which will make you want to eat when you don't really need to. Although occasionally giving in to your cravings for these foods isn’t the end of the world, watch that it doesn’t become a habit!
