9. Plan your snacks every day!
Ease your hunger when it gnaws at you! There's no reason to feel guilty if you eat between meals, especially if you nibble healthfully. With a bit of organization, you'll find it easier to choose healthy snacks.
Tips 101
- Include snacks on your grocery list.
- When you come home from the supermarket, prepare some fruits and vegetables ahead of time to have them ready to eat at snacktime.
- Designate a "snack corner" in the fridge and pantry, where the family can easily see and access snacks.
- Keep some snacks at the office (e.g. canned fruit without added sugar, nuts, whole grain or oatmeal granola bars, vegetable juice, rice cakes, dried fruit). If you have access to a fridge, you can keep some single-serving yogourts, raw veggies, cheese and some fresh fruit on hand.
Ideas for the whole family
Encourage your kids to snack healthfully by being a good example! Challenge them to invent new snacks for themselves and for you. For instance, let them make a healthy concoction of dry cereals, sunflower seeds and dried fruit.
