I've never been on any kind of diet. I feel that moderation in everything is key. I generally eat healthy foods, lean meats, fish, veggies & fruit and conscientious of eating/drinking milk products due to my age (52) & smaller frame. I tend to graze between meals on fruit & a chunk of cheese or a few whole grain crackers & hummus or cheese etc. If I feel like a treat ie. piece of cake, or squares etc. I allow myself to indulge in only one, as it's only on occasion.

I try to watch my serving sizes and reevaluate them monthly - it is amazing how quickly they can grow over a month, which leads to gradual weight gain so easily.

I was on a diet lost all my weight, immediately after I started to gain it back. Within one year, I was right back to were I started. It has to be a lifestyle change, that's why diets do not work. Changes you make in how you live your life, what you do, eat, make the difference. Get active, take the stairs, park farther away than the store entrance. Eat better, because you are wear the effort. Ask yourself, would I let my kids eat what you feeding yourself.

A fad is just that, in and out. Choosing to eat properly and exercise regularly is also a lot easier to stick to than starving!

I started keeping a food diary and I then compared it to Canada's food guide....what a shock!!! I was overwelmed at how much protein I was eating and how little fruits and veggies I was taking in daily. I made a decision to change up the following days and meet the guide as best as I could. What a change! I feel fuller and healthier already.

Keep track of what you eat in a journal and you will not eat as much. It's surprising the amount of calories that are consumed by 'picking' between meals.

I keep track of everything I eat. This way I know what and how much I am putting in my mouth. I can tell if I need more or less from each food group.

I figure it is more healthy for me to be a little overweight as compared to going on one after another fad diets, which never work in the long run. I used to try them when I was a teenager as a quick fix but found they left me feeling awful and tired.

It is important to find a diet that you can live with for life. That, is basically just eating healthy. If you follow Canada's Food Guide and exercise you will find a weight that is ideal for you. No one can follow strange diets like eating grapefruits all day or cabbage soup. By trying fad diets you are not making a lifetime change. I eat 3 balanced meals each day with 2 small healthy snacks. I exercise 3 times a week plus I walk everyday. If you have enough variety, texture and taste

Most diet fads dont last and keep the weight off- There is no magic way to loose weight. Hard work and dedication is the only sure way.
