When you have kids, you know it's critically important not only to teach them good eating habits, but to model these as well. By seeing you eating healthy meals and snacks, kids will want to eat like Mom or Dad! This can be as easy as going for a glass of milk instead of pop, or a piece of protein-rich cheese instead of a bag of chips. When the kids are older, you can begin to share some of the research and nutritional information behind your wise food choices.

I have 3 daughters and since they are little, I always put a healty variety of vegetables, salads, etc. on the table with the choice to eat them or not and this even when they requested junk foods. Today at 18, 19 and 21, most of the time they go for the healty stuff.

I try to teach our daughters how to nourish their bodies so that they are able to do all of the physical and mental activities that surround them each day. You only have one body so you need to take care of it!

Don't skimp when it comes to your childrens health, look out for them too. If you feed your children their vegetables when they are young they are more likely to grow into adults who have healthier eating habits.

I have made a chart using the Canada Food Guide for my 2 kids. Every day they check off what they have had from each food group and earn 10 cents for every item. I deduct 10 cents if they don't have the recommended number for each group. At the end of each week I tally and pay them the total if they have followed the food guide. They are now very motivated to eat from the guide and check off each item.

I give my kids healthy choices to choose from, at snack times. Instead of just letting them go into the pantry and haul out the quick fixes like chips, they get to choose from fruit, dairy products or vegetables. I also find that around snack time, I just cut up fruit and leave it on the table so when they're playing, they go to the table and eat what I've set out.

even though i have a minivan sitting in the driveway, we walk to school, weather permitting. and even better, we all got new umbrellas for easter, and can walk in the rain or shine!!

I have ten year old quadruplets. It's not always easy but even though I may not have the healthiest habits, I do try to instill in my kids to learn to eat properly early on. I try to limit the amount of junk they eat, and make sure that they balance it with healthy items first. Sometimes, they just don't want to bite into the apple so if I cut it up, they tend to eat it. I make sure their lunches are packed with healthy things so that they really don't have a choice but to eat healthy.

Encourage your kids to have a proper "snack time" and discipline them to eat healthy snacks (apples, cheddar sticks, raisin and peanut butter on celery sticks) while giving them the chance to have the occassional candy bar. Discipline is not about depriving them of all sweets (that would be a miracle) but showing them that there is a time and place for these sweets. When they know they can look forward to a chocolate bar once a week, it makes all those carrot sticks worth it.

To ensure my kids start the day off with a good breakfast I make a batch of french toast with whold wheat bread on a Sunday afternoon, indivdually wrap them in wax paper and put them in the frig or freezer. The kids can then pop them in the toaster for a fast nurtritious breakfast.
