This pointer also applies to grandparents and grandkids. As a grandparent, we can also encourage physical activity by simply walking along a river with a grandchild. Both benefit from the exercise and the time together!

I eat a variety of raw vegetables daily and so do my kids. When they see me eating them, they grab for them too without a second thought. It's the parents that teach their kids good or bad eating habits, as they mimic our behaviour.

Instead of teaching my kids, it's my kids teaching me.I am watching my eldest daughter with her two daughters and I am learning from her.She watches everything that comes into the house. The fruits and vegeys are organic, the meat is from an organic market. The girls(ages7 and 7 months) eat a variety of veggies hidden in their food.Like sweet potatoes in there pancakes. She puts minced broccolli in her meatloaf, and everyones eats it.

Teach your kids:by example. They will copy your eating habits, be they good or bad. Starting them off with good eating habits and regular exercise routines is even more important than saving for that college education down the road.

Get your kids involved in the gym aswell. My 3 year old attends the Child Care and my 14 year old is excited about beginning in the gym on her birthday. Noticing changes with mom inspires the effort in the kids to get involved.

My kids love cereal for breakfast. In order to keep things healthy, we mix a healthier cereal in the bowl with one that's more of a treat. They don't miss the extra sugar and they get more whole grains this way.

I'm a stay at home mom with a 3 1/2 year old girl and a 11 monht boy. Since it's been a snowy winter we've had to stay inside a lot more. I often put some music on and the three of us will dance for 15 minutes on most days. It's usually my daughter that says shes' tired !!! Another way to get active is I do yoga and weights at home and she does her version of it next to me. I want her to see exercise as a way of life not a "have to".

I buy large bags of frozen fruit. Not only is it economical, it is a great way to get your 7-10 servings in per day. Frozen berries make great yogurt parfaits (yogurt, fruit, granola) for breakfast or fantastic smoothies that whip up in an instant. Add 1 serving of yogurt, 2 servings of whatever frozen fruit you have and serving of orange juice or an orange juice blend. In the winter, I make a fruit salad with (boring ) fruits such as apples, banana's, and oranges and add frozen fruits!
