Something very important that helped me lose 75 lbs was getting enough sleep each night. My body needs more than the recommended 8 hours, and getting 10 really helped me during the day; I made better food choices, did more exercise and had a lot more energy. This all helped me to lose more weight. Get to know your own body and its sleep needs- maybe 7 hours is enough for you, but to find out if you could do better with even more sleep, take a weekend to allow yourself to sleep

I find doing pilates, yoga or even quiet positive thoughts help me stay in tune and LISTEN to my body. The most important is checking whether your really needing a snack, are you bored? Are you stressed? Did you eat poorly earlier? Is it thirst? I always try to take 5 minutes before I reach for something to eat ad then find out 70% of the time it is everything but hunger!

I learned to use luncheon plate, rather than a dinner plate, to eat from. The plate looks full, but there is less on it. I also learned to eat what was on my plate more slowly, so that I finished my meal at the same time as everyone else. This has turned into a habit that is easy to maintain.

Do not over exhert yourself. If your body is aching or joints are in pain, stop doing the exercises until you feel better.

Know your cravings, and what they mean. For example when I crave sweets, by body usually needs fruit. Frozen fruit, such as bananas and smoothies are often tastier than ice cream and other stuff that don't make you feel as good. Know when and how often your body needs to eat. I like to eat smaller portions and very often. Hunger drives my system to overeating, fatigue, irritability. Get enough sleep. Exercise helps! Especially light aerobic. Not only does it help burn calories

Always remember portion size, and eat slowly. That way, when you are full, you will not have overeaten.

As I get older, it is amazing how I can read my body signs. They've been there all along, but either life was too busy or work gets in the way to see the signs. I have taken the first step and changed jobs to one less stressful and have started an exercise program, so I feel I am on the right track.
