After every six bites of any food, take the time to ask yourself "am I still hungry?". If the answer is "no", have a big glass of water and stop eating until the next time your body says it is hungry!

Try not to eat mindlessly while watching television -- I try to keep my hands busy with an activity such as needlework. It's hard to eat while you're crafting!

If you haven't exercised in a while, start slowly and work up to your desired level.

At 55, I know that it takes a consistent effort to stay slim, feel energetic and not age too quickly. I excercise 3 time a week at a gym with weights - the quickest way to reshape a body and to keep my bone density at a healthy level. I eat 3 meals a day, but put the exact portion of what I need to eat on a plate. I eat no more or less than what is on the plate. These two tips have worked for me for 20 years.

Eat food slowly. While you take the time to enjoy the taste, you will realize that you are full before you eat to excess!

To make sure I drink milk every day, I’ve simply replaced my afternoon soft drink with a glass of chocolate milk. It’s just as satisfying and much more nutritious.

Be sure to eat slowly and chew your food well. It takes approximately 20 minutes for your stomach to register that it's full.

I went out and bought 9" lunch plates which we now use daily for all our meals instead of our regular dinner plates. This has helped cut down on portion size and since the plate looks full, subconsciously we aren't looking for more food. Kenricia

I make it a point to pay attention to what my body is telling me. I have slowed down my eating and discover that I tend to be full faster than I expect to be. This step alone has helped me lose weight without feeling deprived.
